looking around for a door seal. local hardware only seems to have a narrow width fiberglass (5/8")...looking for something wider.
i see mcmaster has many types....tadpole, rope, slotted fiberglass. how is the tadpole installed? do you put the flat portion on the inside edge and the bulb overhangs to the inside of the opening? is the rope style able to be flattened? the 'slotted' looks cheaper, but is it adequate for a door seal? the door (and a few accessories) is the last part of my oven build. |

used high-temp. mortar to glue/seal it to the frame & riveted it every 5".

I used the tadpole seal on my small oven, riveted, and rope seal on my larhe oven. I used Silicone to glue the rope seal to the door frame, so far so good

what part of the tadpole creates the seal? the bulb? hard to tell from nutty's pics, but it looks like the 'tail' was used to fasten the seal to the door and the bulb gets compressed in between the 2 surfaces?
hard to find good pics of this sort of stuff. thanks |
