Default Finally Done!!!!!

After 6 months of coating, honey doo's,and working full time,my big oven is finally done. I have been a member of this sight for a few years now,and would not have even attemped to built an oven. Thanks for all of your suggestions and replies to my non stop questions.
I haven't figured out my PID controllers completely yet but it's working so far. I fired it up a few times since completed trying to burn off any contaminates on the metal. It's still smoking out the vent a little.

Does anyone know of something to clean galvanized metal to speed up the non smoking process?
As soon as I can figure out how to post pictures I'll be glad too share them with you.

Thanks to all!

Dee

awesome, nice work! i don't know of anything that will speed the smoke out process. we finished our oven build a few months ago, and i just ran the temperature up 25-50deg at a time, holding it until it stopped smoking, then bumping it up. i let it cool to room temp a couple times before taking it up to 500+. this was for several reasons: 1) smoke, 2) prevent heat shock-induced warping (i don't know if this would have been a problem or not...), 3) this was our first build and i didn't know if the thing was going to catch fire!

I wiped my oven down with a solvent first, let it completely dry, then wiped it again with a waterborne wax and grease remover.

Cool Re: Finally Done!!!!!

Do you recall what kind of solvent you used? Someone mentioned to use vinegar but not sure about that.
If I recall did you mentioned you used the same controller that I use (TC-40?
Do you know if it is common for the relay to turn off and on constantly after it has reached the target temp.? I have the target temp. set to 410* and when it reaches that temp. it goes alittle pass that then turns off then immediatly turns back on and goes to about 420 and turns off.
The temp.never gets down to the target temp. before it turns back on. Then it goes to about 425-430 thens cuts off again. It's not very consistant, but it never gets below the target temp. I assumed I set it up correctly.
This is the way I set this up:
I used J2 as the power to the relay.
"outy" to 1
AL2 is set to 415*
AH2 is set to 410*

CarWiz is an unknown quantity at this point

You may want to check your documentation. I don't about the TC-40 but the TET-612 says this about Outy=1:

1: Relay J1 alarm output; Relay J2 PID controlled output and SV, AH2, AL2 values are not used; SSR control output disabled

I used acetone first, But obviously you need to wipe it down and let it completely dry before firing the oven. I also used the PPG waterborne wax and grease remover next. The oven smoked a fair amount anyway when I ran it thru the first few cycles, but eventually it settles down.

The pid does cycle the relay on and off frequently when the temp set point is reached. This isn't a problem with SSR's but if you are using a contactor you need to adjust the cycle rate setting 'ot' to a much larger number then the default '2'.

I would try to run the auto tuning section once more to see if that doesn't improve holding the target temperature. Auto tuning is valid if outy is set to '1' or '2'. If that fails, I would adjust some of the pid parameters to see if that improves the temp range. My temps slightly go above the set point, but not by more than a few degrees. I usually do cure times slightly above and longer than recommended so I'm not sure I would worry about small variances.

Carwiz - The TC-408 instructions state that if outy is set to '1' then: "Relay J1 as alarm output. J2 as PID controlled relay contact output. SSR output disabled". There must be some differences between the TC-408 and the TET-612. Are the TET-612 instructions available anywhere online?

Thanks everyone!
I'll play with a few things to see if I can get it right. I may need to go with SSR's instead of the relays.
Thanks again for the help.
