Has anyone used a control panel from a regular kitchen oven?I scored a good G.E.electric oven with all the wiring, thermostat, everything is there, can I use it to control my oven temp?

I'm not sure what your question is? If you want to use the oven 'as is' then there should be no issue.
Are you are looking to take the oven components out of this oven to install them in an oven you make? The limitation of this would be that the components are probably sized to the oven they are currently in. |

I want mount the the control panel from the parts oven onto my homemade oven and use it to run my oven.I have all the wiring from the parts oven,I have the thermostat and all the other electrical parts needed to run an oven,is there any reason I can't make this work?

If what you are doing is just duplicating the GE oven but in a differant configuration it should work OK allowing for sound construction and proper insulation. Then on the other hand, with a little ingenuity, a person could switch a contactor with this setup, in turn, switching the elements. My experience with these newer stoves has been when the elements burn out, it causes the electronic temp controller to go out also , with that in mind make sure that yours is servicable before going to too much work.

I'm going to be using 3- 2800 watt elements in the new oven(72#x32#x32#)I was just wondering in I can use the control panel I have from the donor oven,to regulate the temperature.

Your 3 elements would be drawing about 35 amps. The controller would probably work, but you may need to change the contactor or ssr to a higher capacity unit. It's impossible to tell without knowing the limitations of the existing components.
But if you're changing to different elements and contactors/ssr's you might want to just purchase a new pid knowing everything will then be matched for size. |

Most of the time, the contactor or ssr has what amperage it can handle printed and/or stamped on it. The wiring diagram is gonna be a standardized diagram, I doubt those numbers will be printed on it. If you got a parts list with the donor oven, it may be on there.

The relay that the donor oven uses to switch the bake element, which most likly switchs one feed to that element could be used to switch a contactor of the proper size. Usually those elements are only switched on one side so the donor oven is switching a 110 volt lead, if that were conbined with a neutral, then that relay could switch a contactor with a 110 volt coil. ( A relay switching a relay) By the time you buy a contactor, just bite the bullet and buy a PID and a themocouple. (Auber) You'll like the results. Fred
PS. make sure you buy a contactor of the proper state. |
