reluctantly, i say yes. ...at least the ball valve style. i think i built a pretty tight box, and there are still plenty of ways for smoke to get out. one place i don't see smoke is coming out the vent. i'm not saying ovens don't need vents, because they do, i'm just saying you may well have enough leaks (it doesn't take much) to be "naturally" vented. if you still want a true vent, i'd consider another method (sorry i can't offer an alternative at this point).

you could always wait to install it until after you try it out.

I used gatorhyde oven as a reference for mine. I built the same size as his. I think I have everything bought for mine unless I missed something and I have spent about $1800.00 dollars. Still a far cry from $7500 being the cheapest I found and $10,000 being the average cost.

Hey Gator, Have you got that thing fired up yet? I was just wondering how it works. I had to take a break from mine for about two weeks now. Work got in the way. Hopefully I will get back on it next week.

Yeah, I threw my back out throwing the baseball. I have been in a crippled state and can't hardly walk for over a week now. Oven is done just can't get near it as I am really in a bad state with this back of mine. I will keep you posted as to when I turn some juice to it, hopefully soon!

Alex
