I think 6000 watts for a 64 cu ft oven is minimal at best. My guess is you would be looking at a 45 minute or longer heat up cycle. I'm using 5200 watts in a 27 cu ft oven and my initial heat up times run 25-30 minutes.

Iam not sure what I should build. I plan to do some chopper frames and alot of sillouhettes and ornamental iron. The 4x4x6 seemes to be what most others build. I am just not sure.

TIC1, My oven is 3'6" by 4' by 6'6' inside, it has 4" thick walls and is insulated with R15 mineral wool. I'm using 2- 3000 watt elements which is OK but would be better with one additional element. The construction of the oven walls to eleminate heat transfer from the inside to the outside is the secret to getting by with little heat loss. I built a box within a box (3/4 tubing) to minimise this heat loss. The only contact between the two boxes is at the door flange, window, can for the fan,and the back corners for support of the inner box. If you PM me your Email address I'll send you pics. Also you were asking about the electrical load, Try, Watts devided by volts equals amps. Fred

Fred. I am having trouble finding mineral wool. I think that roxul flexibatt will work. The melt rating on it 1100 degreesC and 2500 degrees F.I think it is meneral wool insulation but it is just for houses. I am planning on going 6" thick walls. I would love to see pics. Do you have a fan?? I live in Canada and Mcmaster carr won't ship here, so I need to find another place to get a fan from. Again thanks so much.

Pete

I think you might find that 6" walls is overkill and expensive. You should do great with 4" walls. I do good with 2".

You might check out one of these high temperature Dayton fans. Not sure they ship to Canada but you could ask.
