Default burners won't shut off?

Ok,thanks to everyone on the board I got my oven fired up,I followed the wiring diagram from the ssr post,when my oven reaches the set tempeture the relay stops flashing but the burners don't shut off,I let it go thinking maybe it would climb 5 0r 10 degrees higher then the set temp but it kept on going,I had to shut off the power,any ideas?

I can only think of two ways this could occur. First the ssr might be bad and the load side contacts are not opening when the relay is de-energized. Have you installed a heat sink?

The only other possibility would be if the elements are wired improperly such that they are directly energized, by-passing the ssr.

If you are comfortable using a multimeter you can easily check to see if the ssr is working properly. With the power turned off, disconnect the wiring from both load side terminals of the ssr and check for continuity between these terminals. The meter should read 0, indicating the contacts are open. Then reattach the wiring and with power turned on, check for voltage on the load side T1 terminal. If you test to neutral you should see 120vac.

To test the second theory, carefully disconnect(with power turned off) the T1 terminal on the load side of the ssr, power on and observe if the elements are energized. If they are, review your wiring to determine how you are by-passing the ssr.

As usual, Ed is right on the mark. Somehow your heaters may be wired hot at all times. Here's a simplifed diagram. Check your wiring.

[quote=CarWiz;40830] Here's a simplifed diagram.

Nice and clear wiring example. There should be a separate area created to store wiring diagrams only. That would save people a lot of search effort getting access to schematics. Thanks CarWiz
