Started to build my oven tonight. Got part on the framing together. I'll post pics as I go and how I went about doing it.
Here is the start of the bottom. Last edited by wetdream; 03-07-2008 at 01:22 AM. |

I decided to use a flat punch and pound a small part of the center of the studs flat so I could put in a few spacers. This will just make the floor a little stronger to walk on. I used self tapping phillips head screws on the areas where a piece of sheet metal or another stud will contact it. This will keep everything laying flat. I also left enough room so that after I get the whole skeleton framed together I can go back and drill and rivet it to.

Are you sure about those dimensions? The height looks to be more than 56".

It is more than 56". The inside dimensions are going to be 4'x4'x8'. I needed to go taller. Some of the snowmobile frames that I do are just about 8' long.

Installed the cross braces today every 2' from the bottom up. worked out to be 3 braces per wall. I installed them at the 2' mark because I will be using the 4" Roxul Insulation. The Roxul is R4.3 per inch. This make it the best choice for the 4" wall. Before I installed the cross braces I did install another upright toward the rear where the side and the back walls meet. This upright was installed so the sheet metal has something to be screwed to in the corner. See pics below.

Since the upright stud is the larger (smooth stud with no wiring holes) one I had to notch it so that it would fit into the bottom stud of the same size. I cut a scrap so you guys could see how I made it fit. It was then screwed into the upper and lower framing. I left the little piece pulled up so that you could see how I did it. Those parts were cut of before installation.
