Boy would I like to learn how 2 build my own custom oven before I jump into powder coating. Guys in my car club would love it ~ me 2
O.K. Guys here I go. If you be so kind as to help me understand. I pretty fair with tools/mig welding/elec./ grinders, etc, etc.
1. Where would I get plans to build my custom oven ?
2. Just what materials would I need? ( If its sheet metal I can weld the box up myself)
3. There must be a list of some kind in order to build the oven ?
Such as: Gauage of the wiring; Elec. Theormstate(s) Insluation(s) etc, etc.
That's about it guys.
I'm in your hands.
Thank You All

First off Schooner, Welcome to the forum.
You can find about anything you need to know about building an oven in this forum. Also, those of us that have been there and done that, will be around to answer your questions. Some are good at it all and some, like me, are halfast at building an oven. But we've all pretty much got it done.
As for specific plans, I don't think there are any real plans. Mostly in our heads. But you have to figure out waht you want to coat and build your oven to that size. No, make that, Bigger then you think you will need. Cause once you get the hang of it, you WILL want more.I have three. Kitchen oven, 3x3x3 and a 3x3x6. Thinking about a 4x6x7?
Anyway, roughly:
20 gauge sheeting
2"x3" metal studs
scrounge and old electric oven for parts or
use some of the links to find what you need and buy it.
Rock Wool/Mineral Wool insulation
Tons of screws (self tappers) or rivets to put your sheet metal on with and mount your studs. No need to weld.
Good square, friend and time.
Retired? Where you located? What car club? A few car guys here.
Oh yea, so this thread don't get to large, start a new thread in the oven building forum (this forum) Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.
Just do a search for propane (I think) and you should find a few post on it.
Any special reason you want to do a gas fired oven?

Hi Tall Texan
Thanks for the link I am just starting to build my oven and am going to buy this controller. Question where did you inatall the thermocoupler in the oven.
I would think not at the dirrect top but near so the reading is an adverage.
I do plan to get a infrared themometer from Caswell to check the part temp.
but wanted to make sure the controller will hold the correct temp in the oven.
have fun
Tom
Here is a link to Keefe Performance, I just found it tonight and they have alot of electrial parts. The one thing that I found that interested me was the High temperature wire sleeve, it is a fiberglass wire sleeve that will withstand up to 1200 deegree's. I ordered some of it tonight for the build I am doing now, so I guess we will see how it works out. I figure if it works ok that will be great considering it is only .55 per ft, compared to the price of the high temp. wire. Here is the link, maybe it will be helpful.

What size self tapping screw & rivet are you guys using? 5/8?
I used 1/8 rivets and screws on my oven about three years ago. Still good.
