I hope your only talking about painting the outside. If not, do yourself a favor and DO NOT paint the inside. It will start flaking off the inside and get into your powder coated parts. I know, because I made that mistake. It's finally about gone from the inside. What a dumb move that was.

Thumbs up Re: New oven any comments

Thanks for the heads up I was going to paint the inside to make it look nice. With the black high temp caulk, tan Hardy board, and galvanized corners it kind of looks like ****, but I want functionality the most. A bunch of flakes in the powder would make me mad so thanks again.

Stay away from the black stove caulk. It will get hard and then brittle and it also will fall out of the seams and get in your stuff. Been there and done that as well. There is a caulk that I found that is red and takes 500 deg steady and 600 deg briefly, stays rubbery after it sets up and don't fall out. Can't remember the name, but found it at Menard's. I may have it in my files. If I do I will edit this and post it along with this.

Couldn't edit the last post, so here is this. Follow the link to see what you want to look for. You can buy there, but I think if you go to ACE Hardware or Menard's, you can find it there.

I have already used the black and noticed that very thing. I think it wont be a major problem though. I looked at the red and decided against it because the black had a higher temp rating. Looks like I should have researched a little more. Thanks any way.

I have 3 3000 watt elements that go in the bottom, I will be installing them soon and posting pics. For now I have some more build pics to post.

This is one of the doors on and the control box made of an old stainless toolbox and hit with a flap wheel for looks. I only have the PID and two switches in right now.

Great info, JTW!

By the way, what exactly is Hardyboard? I found some cement board in Home Depot that was an odd size (like 5' x 3' or something) but the temp rating wasn't very high if i remember correctly. Is this what hardyboard is? What is the temp rating of the hardyboard you're all using?
