This one won't have a door. It will have a box that is lifted up out of the way to load and unload parts on to the parts rack. It's designed to be able to touch up parts once they are installed on to the rack in case you bump something. It made for primarly larger, heavy parts that are not easily loaded into a smaller oven. I want to be able to do motocycle frames. I have it finished all accept the lifting device which I am still trying to figure out. Right now I'm using a shop engine lift but it's not the best because of the angle it lifts the top, It dosen't lift straight up.

I started it up yesterday and it did the job but I'm still trying to figure out the operation of this stewpid PID I used in-stead of the normal controller I used on my last project. It took a long time to come up to the temp I wanted. I must have something set wrong because the PID would run for awhile and the temp would rise then it would phase on and off until it got to the 388 degrees I had it set for. I hooked up an old control off another oven and it came up to temp in about 10 minutes so I know I just have to figure out the setup on the PID. I'm not too good with that fancy electronical ****.

Once it got up to 400 degrees I cut it off at around 12 noon and at 5 PM it was still 238 degrees in the box so the 3 inches of mineral wool is doing the job it seems. I still plan on cutting some kind of window in the side for viewing and once I get the lifting device made I'll be making biscuits and coating parts.

My thinking on this was that this oven will be expandable if needed for longer parts by just adding another burner pan to the one already there and then adding on to the cover which won't be too hard to do the way it's built.

More pics of box and secondary temp reader in operation. I don't know why yet, there is a difference in readings of the PID and this smoker temp probe but I think it has to do with the way the two thermocouplers are mounted into the box. I'm working on that.

In relation to windows try standard wall oven doors around $5 at recyclers , I have one in each of my oven extensions (4ft add ons ) as I sometimes powdercoat up to 30 ft long beams and extrusions.

so you cure those giants in sections, with only a portion of the piece in the oven at any time?

as far as the lid coming off..couldn't you make a "A" frame with a beam at the top with a chain(s) coming down on a pully to lift up the lid? Kind of like a Cherry picker? Just a thought. Hope it helps.

Well the idea was to build a oven that I didn't have to worry about trying to get parts into without knocking the powder off. It seems that no matter how big you make the oven you always want to coat a part that is odd shaped or that is almost to big to go into what you have. My thinking was that by having the whole inside of the oven open I could do touch up even after the part is actually inside the oven.

Once I raise the box it is out of the way and I can have access all around the part so inspection is easier because I don't have to slide the parts in and out to look at them. I can shoot a second coat right in the oven while the part is still hot and I don't have to move them.

Probably not the most perfect way of doing things but I thought I would give it a try and see how it works. So far I think I'm going to like it once I get it set up where it's going to live.
