it would need to be insulated, but yeah, if i was going that big i'd probably start with a shipping container. already rigid, already has doors and latches. solid start.
Hey Guys , new to all this so bare with me.
Can you use a shipping container as an oven , is it to big ,will it hold heat .As I need one big enough to do trays from utes (pick ups ) etc.
Would I be better off building one from sheet metal.
It will be gas fired.
Any help would be great!
Cheers from down under!!!!!![]()

I want one!!! I had that idea too. just cant seem to find one cheap or even free..take pics if you do that...
you would need to replace floor as they are wood or at least the one I know about but otherwise nice strong box
i have the same idea. was quoted $1950 + $75 delivery fee locally to purchase(20 feet long).
my question is: is there a way to protect the wood floor or should it be removed for the oven area?
i plan on converting the back portion into an oven (well insulated of course) and the front part for coating with a pulley system to get the large parts in.
mine will be electric.
looking to be able to do engine blocks, motorcycle frames, etc.
That should make one heck of an oven. If it were me, I would just get rid of the floor. Unless of course it would take some major deconstruction. But then again, I like the idea of being able to roll a rack of parts into it instead of carry. I do like the conveyor idea too.![]()
Who says you can't teach an ole dog new tricks?
