Thanks! That's exactly what I couldn't figure out was how to control the gas. I'm still a little foggy on how they work and how you got everything wired up, so I'll have to do some research on them.

So does the gas solenoid control the flow of gas in a variable manner? Kind of like a rheostat would on a light fixture?

Or does it shut it off and then turn it on again by a pilot light or piezo lighter?

Sorry for the questions, I Google'd around last night and couldn't find much, except a price range of approx $175 for those things.

It is not variable. It is on or off. I wired the valve into the main power for the heater. So when you plug it in the solenoid opens, the fan turns on, and the ignitor starts sparking. It is electronic ignition so no pilot light.

Gotcha. The electronic ignition part is probably the most important part. I mis-spoke earlier when I referenced piezo type ignition. That's the kind of ignition I have on my heater, which is like an old style gas grill where you keep pushing the button until it lights.

The electronic ignition would be essential using your setup with the solenoid from what I now understand. So I would first need to buy a different heater with electronic ignition if I went this route. Or use gas stove innards with the corresponding electronic ignition out of that.

Thanks for helping this newbie understand the basics!

So today I finished the mini door all up and fired her up for the first time. It takes about 12 minutes to hit 400.

This is my first batch of parts. These are fresh off my plasma table. I will be doing mostly this kind of work for now. Parts where coated with Forrest's black texture and sprayed with the HF gun.

Oven looks great. Good job. It's good to see that Gas fired unit works. This will open up some doors for folks who aren't handy with 220. Thanks for posting your build.

Nice build!

Any issues with dirt or dust contaminating your work with the blowing heater?

Thanks.

I can't realy tell yet. All I have done is black texure. It really does not move as much air as you would think. I may make a filter for the intake side of heater for added protection against dust.

Looks like a great job and really nice.

I notice the elbow on the heater going into the oven though. Is that Galvanized and if so how hot does that get? Be careful of toxic fumes if galvanized duct gets too hot.

On dialup here and not seen all the pics load yet. Are you using a baffle to spread the airflow from the heater somehow?
