It's now about a 6 or 6*. I replated the entire facing several times to make the piece look stock again, but it most certainly isn't. I actually LIKE it now. I also tried to clean up some of the marks on the back where tooth pads used to be, but there seemed to be no discernible difference and I gave up. I stripped this down to bare brass many years ago and liked the way it looked but was tired of cleaning it all the time. It looks just about the same now but I shouldn't have to do nearly so much maintenance on it! I intended to do just silver but found I wasn't all that impressed with it visually and re-plated in copper. It really is that pink but I expect it to darken over time. Going for that vintage look on a brand new horn! This sort of detailing was common on instruments until about WWII. The nickel underneath is so hard that I could buff this out with polishing compound and leave the nickel untouched. A silver-plated Otto Link?!? No, just a brief stop-over on the way to gold plate! I had to reface the mouthpiece because it was damaged, which took it down to bare brass in places.
