Default Strike coat alternatives ?

If I am going to set up an attempt at replating pot metal, I already have nickle and zinc kits, but do I really need to buy a flash copper kit and an acid copper kit, is there any way of applying a strike coat using my nickle or zinc kit ?

What would be the BEST way ?
Any Help Really Appreciated
Thanks
Rab

Default Re: Strike coat alternatives ?

personally I love the flash copper as it is one of the best "strike coat" systems around for any metal. I have gas axed parts to extremely high temps and it has shown no sign of delaminating from the base material. naturally there is a point where it will, but this is well beyond what most parts would be subjected to.

It is all in the "strike coat" being an alkaline plating process. the other option is to look around for a nickle "strike coat" system. these are low acidity and allow for a coat of nickle to go down on pot metal etc. prior to acid copper.

In short, get the flash copper, it is great. As for the Acid copper.. well it is also worthwhile having, however the flash copper will build quite well. There is nothing stopping you using the flash copper instead of acid copper, however it will probably take a bit longer to build?

Default Another comment on flash copper LOL

Nope I love my flash copper! awesome!

Just doubled the size of the tank (1.5gal to 3 gal) without adding any additional chemicals, just a bigger bucket and 1.5 gal of distilled water. Amazingly the flash copper still works fine, nice bright fine grained deposit.
