Default Copy Cad over zinc question

I have two carbs off of a vintage British motorcycle that are zinc die cast/pot metal. Can I use the Copy cad system over this material and can I use the brightener or blue chromate with Copy Cad over zinc die cast. One more question if I can put Copy Cad over zinc die cast/pot metal and changed my mind and wanted Electroless nickel can this be done.

Lt_Dan:

Sometimes you need patience. Not everyone visits here every day.

Yes, you can zinc plate die-cast carb bodies. Depending on your carbs particular mix of pot metals, you may be able to color chromate it w/out plating. If the zinc content is high, it may chromate well. If it's low, you'd need to plate it first.

Unless your carb was a shiny bright color to begin with, you may not want to use brightener. I tried to, and it was far too shiny:

I don't know anything about electroless nickle, but it sould be do-able.

Thank You for the reply.

Sorry for the lack of patience.

Are those two plugs in the lower center of the carb added after plating or are they made of something that did not plate? Lead maybe?

They are the original plugs, aluminum I think. I masked them off w/"mask it", as I didn't want them to plate.

This is a carb part I'm experiment with, to find what does & doesn't work.
