Default removing yellow dichromate

I build and rebuild holley carburetors. Currently my color process is as follows:
*bead blast
*tumble
*dip in pickle
*dip in yellow dichromate
the finish comes out perfect. i guess the pot metal in the carb has enough zinc in it you do not have to plate it first. My question is. Does anyone know of anything i can dip the carb in to remove the existiong yellow. the bead blasting and tumbling is not practicle all the time. i tried muratic acid and it got very violent and hot. Also the carb turned really black. It did remove the yellow though. But i still had to blast it.

10% sulphuric or 1% nitric will remove the chromate and do far less damage to the underlying pot metal. It depends on the condition of the gold chromate. You will still need to scrub the item after. Bead blasting is still the best method I find.

Cheers

Yeah, the HCL will react violently with the zinc in die cast metals (pot metal). You might try a very weak solution of HCL or try vinegar. But remember, DO NOT ADD WATER TO ACID--Add the acid to water.
