Default Looking for Sand blast media mix and sizing.

Hello I just invested in a Sand blasting cabinet and I'm not sure what the best media is to use. I was thinking about using a Aluminum Oxide and Glass bead Mix but I see they sell a medium and a Fine sizes. What would be good for the powdercoating?

Also how often do I need to change the media (Hours of use) And how often should I clean/filter the media? And where can I buy the filters?

    Thanks

In a cabinet you would probably want grits in the 80 range, the finer the better so you dont end up with too aggressive of a profile. You just want your part to have a "tooth" to grab onto. Change it when you notice the performance dropping. And you should only be blasting at about 65-75psi, this will make your media last longer by not smashing the chit out of it at 120psi. Theres no need to mix medias.

I have a small 24x 15 blasting cabinet and a compressor that meets the 5cfm at 100psi not the best but it works well. I used some play sand just to try it out to see if it will hold up to the cfm at 120psi, 100psi ,90psi ,and 80psi and 70psi but the 80psi seems to work the best.

I was asking about the mix because I found somewhere that for powdercoating someone was recommending mixing aluminum oxide and glass bead and had used that for a long time and liked the outcome a lot it made the job go faster but had a good finish.

We use Starblast media. Very fine product that does not wear out very fast.
We change it after it turns to dust and is collected in out dust filters.
Costs about $15.00 a bag, much better than play sand

I was giving a suggestion to the OP. It is good to include where one acquires someting if they offer up the suggestion.... that is my direction.

I did the search myself as soon as I saw it, but didn;t see any 15 bucks a bag stuff, so I thought maybe the OP would fill us in.
