You guys have helped me out many times, thanks.I have a bike frame(not motorcycle) that needs to done in two colors, white and blue, the bike frame is aluminum, what is the best way do go about this? The frame will have 6" of white an then 10" of blue, thats the pattern,I tested a piece of pipe(galvanized) I shot the pipe with white, baked, taped of half of the white and shot with blue, after the second bake the was great but the white seemed to have tape residue ?I tried the the green tape and the copper color tape, should I have not baked the piece with the tape on?Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

When Masking over another coat, cure til the powder turns "wet" looking, pull the part from the oven and remove the tape. This will keep the tape from leaving the residue, and reduces the ridge at the masking line.

After you remove the tape does the part go back into the oven for the remainder of the cure period?

Yes, pull out after Flow out, remove tape then place back in oven for remainder of cure schedule.

Yes,.... and to add more, The part likely has not reached full cure temp yet, so "Put the part back in for a full cure cycle" is the right answer, as you will have to get the part up to full cure temp still.

That's cool,.... just wanted the original poster to have NO questions un-answered. Hopefully we got it now. I obviously didn't answer well the first time either..... hence the continued string of questioning.

also, make sure the first coat that's getting taped is fully cured, or it'll re-flow and follow the tape giving you wrinkles. after taping, hit the base coat with some grey scotchbrite to give the second coat some bite.

Well I ended up masking the white and then shooting the blue, taping the blue and then shooting the white, the tape I used was a copper colored light weight high temp tape.I then shot the bike frame with midnight clear, hear is a picture.

hells yeah! never woulda known you were asking how to do it! fantastic work!

so after you did the blue, the white parts were still bare? did that reduce the step or seam between the two?
