    Default What powders to use.

    Hello

I have a friend who wants his cold side of the turbo painted hot pink... But I do not want to use a normal powder because I'm afraid the turbo will get to hot from a prolonged session of boost and cause the coating to melt. Does anyone here have experiences in this or tried this before? I am going to run my turbo on my car hard tomorrow and check the temps to see how hot it gets. Also Since the hot side of the turbo gets to be glowing red at some points will the heat from that melt the surface of the power coated part? ( The hot side will be ceramic coated aslo)

Thanks and does anyone know if they make high temp powders in other colors then black and silvers?

i would stick to the ceramic. if he still insists on powder, run the car (under load preferably) and try hitting the cold side with an ir temp gun to find out what it sees temp-wise. i've read a lot of posts about hi-temp powders failing.

Well I don't want to ceramic coat the turbo cold side because he wants it Pink... I want to use the normal powder on the turbo because I can get it in Pink... The High Temp powder im sure will hold up.

Hey has anyone tried to ceramic coat then powder coat over the ceramic with high temp?

I have used both black cat urethane and solar flat black on turbos for my car and haven't had any problems at all. I have a turbo blanket on the turbine housing, so that keeps the under hood temps down quite a bit, but I don't think it makes much of a difference on the overall temp of the compressor side.
