Doesn't sound like a good idea..... The carbon will take it fine,.... the resin that holds it together may not.
i did quite a bit of research on this a few months ago. my conclusion is that i now tell customers no. from what i read, whether it can be coated depends on the carbon's resin matrix. some can take it, some can't. plus, based on what a pita it is to even wet paint or liquid clear carbon with the massive pinholing, it'd probably have a big outgas issue.
i did a piece of tubing that was cut off from a scrap carbon fiber bicycle frame
heated the part to about 200 f then i coated , cured at around 375 f .
no outgasing on the part , finish was as nice as any other part that i do .
i did not do any tests on the part after the coating but the piece of tubing seemed to be a little more flexible than it was before .
i would not want to do a complete frame and find out later that the heat ruined the fiber or the resin![]()
