Cool Gun distance from the part or substrate

Any opinions on holding distance of the gun tip from the part or substrate? Thanks!

I actually keep about 10-12 inches from the piece, unless I'm addressing a farraday issue or some other oddity. I have better results that way.

With the HF hobby gun/s I used a lot closer measures,.... I also ran the guns at around 6 psi.... The HS, and the EW Pro,.... both work much better with larger clearance.

That's the gun I shoot, about 10 inches gun to part distance here.

about 10" for a surecoat, too. unless, like scottrods said, i'm cutting into a corner, then i'll get in pretty tight, maybe 5" or less depending on the situation and the nozzle i'm using.

There's a lot of variables (part size, shape, air pressure, humidity) but I generally shoot 10-12" with the HF guns but I run without the diffuser. With a diffuser, about 6" and sometimes 4" with lowered pressure. You're looking for complete and even coverage on that part so "one size" does NOT fit all applications. The only way to be proficient with your equipment is to practice with some parts and learn how it works with different setups. There's no set rule.
