    Default Powder Hoppers. Hypersmooth system.

    Hey Guys,

I bought the new Hypersmooth system a few months ago, it works good. However for the volume of parts im doing, im constantly filling the hoppers and I would like more hoppers. 1 for each color. (6-8 ) colors. I also find that as the powder level in their small hoppers change, the powder flow moves around and frankly it kinda sucks.

I have some big plastic contrainers that had protein in em, they hold about 5lbs of powder and use the same screw on lid as the large Hypersmooth hopper, I assume I can just extend the tubes off the Hypersmooth lid deeper into my new contrainer.

My question being, what can I do to improve the powder flow, what does the hopper on a really good system look like?

Columbia Coatings is coming out with their new fluidizing bed hopper system for the Hyper Smooth very soon. I suggest looking into those for your situation.

I ended up extending the copper positive pressure tubes down to the bottom of my new hopper and it works great.

One of the main problems I see with the hypersmooth hoppers is that the evacuating tubes only have holes drilled up to about 1.5" from the top. When all or most of the holes in that tube are submerged in the dense powder, you have too much powder flow.. however once you get below the end of the evacuating tube, the positive pressure tubes are also above the powder so you have very little flow.

I think the idea situation would be to have the pressure tubes as close to the bottom of the hopper as possible and have the evacuating tube at a level that is always above the dense powder. I started spraying with the new hopper configuration and I am having the best results yet.

The hopper I built for my 02 has 1 pressure tube to the bottom and is turned up toward lid, and I have no evac tube just the fitting about 1" inch below lid.. No powder surge and good flow as long as hopper stays upright so I hang mine on cart above hyper and use longer hose for powder... Amount of powder in hopper doesnt seem to change flow...
