Is there any other way to strip powdercoat other that chemically. I am doing an A-arm for a Polaris and I don't have a container big enough or enough chemical to dip it in. I had heard that you can put the part in the oven and put the oven on the clean cycle and it will cook the powder off. Any truth to this. Any help appreciated.
The part should be able to take the heat. Are you saying you have to blast the part while its warm though or can it cool off. Exactly what is the temp on the clean cycle.
Thanks SCOTTRODS. I might try the clean cycle and then blast it. Thinking I'll pry experiment with the old mangled up A-arm first just incase it doesn't go so well.
i use the self clean all the time to strip pc. it pretty much just turns it into dust. be sure to stay close to the oven as some of the parts may catch fire. just be sure your parts can take the heat. i think self cleaning ovens reach around 700 or 800 degrees.
r1wheelie159, thats exactly the response I was after. I'm going to try it on the old bent up a-arm for the sled and if it works well I will do the new one that way.
there is a plastic media that works pretty well if you have a good pressure blaster. doesn't work so hot with a siphon blaster.
Well, I tried to strip off old powdercoat via the clean cycle on the oven. Really didn't work out like I had planned. Still not calling this method dead in the water as I had some issues with the oven that I think caused it not to work. Those issues were the clean cycle not working.Guess I'm not surprised as this oven did sit out by my buddies fuel barrels before I got ahold of it but hey it was free and a start.
