I have a ground rod outside. I have the ground from the gun and I verified that the outlet is wired and ground correctly. I also added 2 more ground from the ground rod to the part. I have tried 3 different chromes. One was the single stage chrome from eastwood, 2nd one was the reflective chrome from eastwood, and now I'm using the bonded and extruded chrome from Powder buy the pound and I get the same results from all. If you think it needs to be hot flocked, could you tell me the exact steps in this so I get it right. Also if you like I could get some pics of the parts to help you better understand whats going on.

Sure... posts a picture or two. I can't see any new reasons for the second coat blues. You've got all the right grounding going on..... There should have been a good complete part by now.... LOL

On Hot flocking, the flow temp of the powder needs to be reached... the pull the part from the oven and let cool just a hair, so that the powder sticks, but doesn't completely melt to a gloss.... the hard part is getting it hung and ready without losing too much temp. make a test run to determine the flow out temp, and see if you can go from there. The part needs to be hot enough for the powder to barely melt to it.... Then make sure and get enough on it and then do a full cure. Be carefull to get full coverage before curing.

Well..... It loks like the powder didn't stick well in a few areas.

The appearance suggests that your ground is too small. The charge is not bleeding off (this would be the result I have had from the small ground hooks).

Have you tried touching the hooks with your bare hand as you coat? or even the part itself? If you make DAMNSURE you have really clean hands, dry and clean, and touch the part while starting to shoot the second coat, it may help in dissipating the excess charge.

I'm really having a hrad time figuring out what's causing this. I had similar issues a few times, simply because I had a bad ground, or from the excessively charge item.... It's difficult to drain that excess charge sometimes, once you start shooting the second coat. when I have the issue you're having nowadays, I just pre-heat the part to relieve the charge, and everything is OK. You can't do anything at all to the part between coats. It seems like waiting a day or two after the first coat, makes the issue tons worse too.

    Ar we getting warmer yet?

Well the extra grounds I made are only like 12 gauge wiring. I know its small but it's what I had handy. Do you think this could be doing it. Also when you say preheating the part, your just talking about hot flocking right? Also I've never tried touching my ground clips or the part once i've started.

Hot flocking, and Pre-heating are two different animals. I mnisunderstood this myself for a long time. Pre-heating is actually just heating the part up to a below flow or melt temp,... usually 150 or so will do. Just long enough to get it hot,... remove from oven and let cool until you can comfortably touch the part without the "ouch factor". Then shoot. DO NOT BLOW WITH AIR GUN OR WIPE WITH RAGS PRIOR TO SECOND COAT.

The Ground could be great, could be poor. The hard part about such things, is checking that ground nearly daily to insure no corrosin has developed at any connection, and that the connectins are tight and solid.

For whatever reason I can't view the pics larger, so it's tough to see them. Do you have access to Megger or even a decent meter to test resistance?

I do have a megger at work I could probably borrow. And scottrods, thats kind of what I do now. I do the chrome and bake and and let it cool to just where I can touch it and then shoot the next. I've tried to let it cool completely also with the same results. And harleydad, did you try dobule clicking or right click on the pic and save it. Also on the springs, the pic is of the second one I did. I did 2 at once. The first one worked pretty good but still not perfect but turned out alot better and the powder stuck better.
