? Bueller.....Bueller
I am doing translucent teal over chrome and I can't get the teal to stick to the chrome on the underside of the part. I have 3 grounds ran. I am using the 50kv hypersmooth gun. I've tried all different settings. What should I do. The part is hanging yet half coated.

damn! You're hurtin huh?
I figure it's something odd about the part. What is the part? is it tubular or does it have a void inside it? This can casue a weird Farraday issue, that isn't discussed much.... none that I have seen on here,... but I have seen some references about coating tubing structures and such that might cause a strange occurence....
One such case I don't remember the outcome of (recent) where there was an irregular line that wouldn't take powder on a wheel I think... cast alloy If I remember correctly. It apparently had a crack internally that would cause an area on one side of it, that would almost repell powder.
I digress..... There's a possiblity you've reached the Charge limit on your card =-) .... Or part. And no excess charge is draining off.... sometimes the part can be left to "lose" some of the charge and it will take the rest of the powder,.... but it's not really all that likely. Since the piece is in mid production, it's gonna be hard to come up with a cure.... What exactly are we coating here?
I am doing an a-arm for a polaris snowmobile. Here is a pic of my project. Doing both a-arms and springs. I am doing the lower arms now. It will stick perfect on the tops and sides but its bad news bears on the bottom.

Well Texas isn't that far from Southern MN. Hint... Hint... I am hanging it so that it is hung basically like it is mounted on the sled. Wire holding the back up and wire holding the front up so it is sitting level. Could I be getting the chrome on to thickIs that possible. It's just weird how I can never get it to cover on the bottom very well when doing a translucent but the top and sides will turn out perfect.
You have no big oven do you...... ? If you do, then try hanging it vertically.... Other than the tubular thing maybe causing a farraday cage, repelling the powder, I can't imagine.....
There's one good thing about it having this problem on the bottom,... once it's installed,... nobody will see it very much.Of course Your equipment could play a role in this,... I don't think it is that from the description.
Have you tried shooting the bottom first? then the top?... I'm shootin' in the dark here..... Sorry.
If any of this is helpful it would be by almost accident I think....
Let us all know if it ever works out.
No I don't have a big oven. Still living with my parents and so I don't have room for a big oven yet. And in case your wondering, I'm only 21, not 53. Didn't wanna sound pathetic for living with the rents yet. Also I was just wondering if it would work to do the bottom first. That was my next plan of attack. I've also had the same issue on flat pieces so I don't think its the tubular thing. I know its a plus having this problem be on the bottom but I just hate the fact that its not coming out perfect. All I can do is keep trying things. Would it help if I connected my two ground rods together. There is one ground rod that is tied into all the outlets and I drove one in that I connect my extra grounds to.
A base coat that's too heavy could cause those issues, but I don't think that's the case here.
As far as grounding I'd be sure the power supply for the gun is a properly grounded recepticle and just run a ground wire from your ground rod to the rack/hook you hang the part from.
What kv's are you shooting at? The powder should easily wrap around that tubing.
Harleydad I have two grounds ran from my hanging rack to the ground rod. I do the first at 50kv then I've tried anything from 30kv up to 50kv for the second and nothing works. I might try running another ground from the outlet I use directly to the ground rod.
