    Default Masking and primer questions

hey guys, on the topic of masking, do you guys remove the masking after curing, or during flow out? ive been toying around and ive had mixed results. Sometimes the powder will melt onto my masking tape, or plug. So i decided to remove it during flow out, or after i apply the powder, but its a very difficult process sometimes because I cant really just grab the peice easily.

Also, ive been doing a lot of cast aluminum pieces that have pits in them. Would something like a sandable KL killer primer help? id PC it, sand it down and coat it with top coat color.

Heman I am new, but also very "broke", so I toy around with different ways of doing things.
I use a lot of reg blue tape "painters tape" home depot stuff, and it works great if you remove it while the item is still warm.

I know I am new, so some may say it's not good to use or will leave a tacky residue.... but I really don't have that problem. I go to home depot and buy 3" and use it on engine blocks! it sticks nice and it don't curl like green silicone, and removes super EZ if you do it when it is warm. hope this helps....I am new though, and thanks for your help with my posts Heman, get with me on that heater if you like.

hey, i thought i sent you a PM? If not let me know, you can shoot me an email at kuixihe at gmail.com

Anyway, i use masking tape but it leaves a sticky residue thats a PITA to wash off. I have green tape, so ill try using green tape to get the edges and masking tape to mask off large areas. its just a lot of work to masking the item when its cold and keeping my fingers off it cause wearing gloves suck, then after i lay powder on it, i want to remove it instead of baking it, i feel it looks better that way. because the pwoder doesnt flow onto the tape and it gives a crisp clean edge.

The masking tape is not the same as the painter blue tape, I would not even try masking tape...... I did try duct tape with BAD results, but the blue tape I only have great success with. If you did have any residue, a little thinner on a rag would take it right off. I never did have any though.

The blue painters tape has a lot less and different kind of adhesive, I think you will be happy. Much easier to work with , very accessible also.
