Default So...what did I learn today about ceramic coating??? Dont laugh at me too hard.

What I learned in the shop tonight ceramic coating:

First time ceramic coating anything other than "PBTP Chrome Ceramic."

Was shooting Columbia Coatings Aluminum Silver color.

First off...not all Ceramic is water soluble. The Chrome ceramic from PBTP is...so if you mess up or get it on anything other than the parts, it can be rinsed off with water very easily. The silver from Columbia?? Not a chance. So dont mess it up and get runs on your part while spraying it. Luckley I shot it all good the first time. Also...wear gloves. My hands look like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz. NOTHING is taking this **** off my skin. Not industrial soap, brake cleaner, lacquer thinner...Nothing.

Second thing: Some ceramic coatings smell wayyyyyyyyy worse than others. I popped open the container it came in for the first time and the second the smell of it hit my nose, I almost fell over. This brings me back to my first warning....now my hands smell like melted plastic with a touch of melted catalytic converter. The smell aint' goin' away anytime soon from what I can predict.

Third thing: Get a glass bowl blender to mix the stuff with. I bought the 20 dollar special with a cheap plastic bowl. Well...when I failed to clean it out with water (see first warning), I decided to pour lacquer thinner in it despite all better judgment. The lacquer started to melt the plastic bowl and caused a melty mess of plastic. Looks somewhat like the inside of a Mixi Melt you get at Taco Bell.

I have yet to see if the part will come out good. It's in the oven now for an hour. All I know is that I'm extremely mad at myself for thinking all ceramics were made the same. Now I have to go spend some coin on a new blender tomorrow and figure out how to get this stuff off of my hands. Uggg...

    FAIL.

Makes a big mess, hard to clean up, smells bad, sounds like the good stuff to me!

Well...I pulled the headers out of the oven. They look awesome. One tiny run on the backside of one header. Super small. Almost not even noticeable. So...despite my clean up abomination, I'm pretty happy. Ceramic pays good money.

Now I have to go try to scrub this stuff off of my hands for the next hour or so. hahahahah...wait...thats not funny at all!!!
