    Default High temp coatings????

    Well im thinking of coating my entire exhaust on my triumph speed triple in high temp satin black. I just wanted to see if it will hold up or will the exhaust be to hot for it? I have never used this high temp stuff so thanks! And also when you bake it do i keep it at 400 or do i have to bake it higher? Thanks!

    It'll never work..... well,.... more than likely it will not. Temps get too hot in the transitions and hard radiused pipes, and will peel and flake in those areas typically...... Looks like a job for Ceramics or just keep 'em chrome.....

    I have been coating high temp paint for years...Never had an issue with it flaking off...

    As for oven temp... read what the powder manufacture recommended oven temp is...I use forest paint companies high temp powder and they recommend 450 back temp...

    Heres a little about what the powder can withstand...
    * Heat resistant up to 1200°F
    * Superior Salt Fog Performance
    * Thermal shock resistant
    * Capable of passing a full battery of corrosion performance tests for automotive applications

    I agree with Mr.Rip,Ive coated quite a few headers and exhaust manifolds with no problems,I use 1200 degree powder as well from Ohio custom coatings.

    I have had more issues with the high temps sticking than others. I di a set of pipes on a Kawasaki 650 (Triumph clone) After a week the customer got the air hose and was just blowing dust and blew the powder right off the pipes (motor had not been fired yet) I stripped them and re blasted with a heavier profile and recoated. a week later the customer drove around the block and the high temp was flaking off again. I then stripped and recoated in Black Magic standard powder and it is holding up just fine. We get a lot of arguement on what works on bike pipes and what doesnt. V-Twins like Harley run extremely high exhaust temps and nothing will work on them but Ceramics. Most sport bikes (inline 4s and twins) run much cooler exhust temps and a lot of standard powders work just fine.
