    Default how much to charge?

I have a guy wanting me to coat two wing windows, like this one, and 6 door handles/window cranks for a '66 Mustang, in ultimate chrome. With the wing window frames, I will have to strip the old chrome off of them because there are a lot of small rust spots that have come through. I plan to coat with a primer first, since they will see the elements a lot. What is a good price to tell him?

all depends on blasting time to get down to the pitting will most likly take a lot of blasting and a few coats of kl to fill all the pitting. depending on your setup will set the cost. when I was working from home it was easy I fidgured out how much time it would take me to get the parts completed and add up materials used including electric gas media and such say its 50 worth of power powder media and it takes you 5 hours to do the parts even at 10 bucks a hour your still looking at 100 bucks. personaly even when I was out the garage I woundt work for less then 20 to 40 a hour. also rember the going rate for 2nd coats is 50% added to the cost and if you shot primer chrome and a clear your looking at a lot of just oven time to get to temp and hold it.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to pass on the job. Right now I'm only working with a Caswell 50KV gun and once I get past about 2 coats, it can get touchy on how well and uniform the powder sticks. Since I'd be doing 3-4 coats on those pieces, I just decided it wasn't going to be worth the hassle.

Probably a good idea for a variety of reasons,.... one of which would be the disappointment of the customer when they see what chrome powder looks like after you lay down a clear coat,.... It's never what they expect.

I've gotten over the "it sucks" thing..... Hell,.... if they want chrome, they shouldn't be bringing it to me anyway. I've resigned to the fact that it's no big deal. The only real reason I shoot chromes, is for base coats.... Nothing else. I don't offer it as a final finish at all. If they want a badass Shiny Silver,.... I got some of that. It's labeled "Chrome".

same here i use chrome powders mostly as a base boat only , i used it as a bright silver a few times but customers were aware that it has nothing to do with real chrome .
if they want the look of real chrome i send them to the plating shop .
