My chrome powder is like a shinny silver not chrome. chrome was cured at 375-400 for 25 minutes, slightly open oven door and let cool. clear coat cured at 375-400 for 25 minutes and let cool the same way. nowhere close to chrome. any suggestions

lower the heat and go for a longer cure cycle, back off on the gun and let the "fine" particles attract themselves instead of the bigger ones and see how you do with it then. Remember everybody, this powder is not a substitute for chrome, but a good facade on a surface that "counter-reflects" itself (intake manifold, hood hinges, bracketry, etc) and not a big flat panel. I'm afraid shiny silver that can *almost* be a reflective surface is pretty close to the best you can do with it. In my experience anyways.....Hope that helps, Russ

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Talk about two things I love all in the same package. Mopar Hemi and powder coatings. Sweetness personified! THIS is how it's done, folks. I'm really excited about the results you guys are posting on this site! Makes me feel all warm and mushy inside, lol. Now.....if only I can get off my own lazy backside and do some of my own projects this winter, I could maybe join the group of proud Caswell coaters,eh? Way nice, Hemi....and I'm not just saying that because I want a ride in the car either,lol!......Russ
P.S. ~ Submit that pic to Caswell for posting on the site,no? I sure would. |

Looks great Hemi-T
Chrome can be tricky when not applying a tinted clear over it. I have found in my experiance to warm the oven and the part together does better that sticking the cooled part into a hot oven. Once the part has been at 400 for 10-15 I let it cool down slowly to room temp. Apply the clear than bake as normal. My results. I'll see if I can dig up some more. |
