Thread: Powder coating on firearms

    Default Powder coating on firearms

    Hello,

Im a licensed firearms dealer/manufacturer. I presently build custom firearms and offer a recoating service. I am now using a solvent based teflon/moly coating and would like to switch to powder coating for increased wear resistance and the lack of fumes. I have the following questions.

What types of powder coatings are available from your company?

Will the gun you offer be sufficient? I only spray maybe 3 to 4 a week.

My current process involves total disassembly, solvent cleaning, sandblasting with 80 grit aluminium oxide, parkerizing then the teflon application. What surface preparations would I need to take to use powder coating? Polishing the surface is too time consuming. Wouldnt a sandblasted surface help adhesion? I do not require a glossy finish.

Besides black I am currently using OD green and muted tan colors, is there any equivalents in powder?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

All our powder coating supplies are at http://www.caswellplating.com/powder_coat.htm
We can also special order colors, if the color you need is not listed.

Yes, the gun we supply will suffice.

Sure, a sandblasted finish would be great.

Did you ever powdercoat any firearms? I was considering doing one myself...
