Default Wiring (GE Appliances) oven

hey im just going over the forum for info on wiring up an oven. i going to be using a regular house oven (GE Appliances) there are 4 wires Red,White,Black and copper that i think is ground. i have it hooked up to a plug so i didn't have to keep it connected when im not using it. my thing is it comes on and all but i only have the copper wire for the ground, the White and Black for the powers what do i do with the red . Is there a certain was thing should be hooked up. I turned it on and I started smelling a sent like wire in the top of the oven where starting to burn . well if anybody could help me out with this it would be of grate help.

The black and red wires are your HOT wires. The white is neutral, and the copper is ground. 220, unlike 110, uses 2 hot wires instead of one. If you do not feel sure of what you are doing, PLEASE call a pro. AC power isn't something to play around with. Hope this helps though.

Thinking im going to end up getting a pro to finish this. but its mostly hooked up already.
but with the red and black being the main powers. does it matter which one of the two do i jump the white wire in with?

Default Shocking mistakes

White is your neutral, green is your ground. YES, it DOES make a difference. I'd STRONGLY suggest that you get a professional electrician to help you hook it up, as the results of an error could be a fire or a potentially fatal electrical shock if you wire it wrong. It's just not worth it to save a few dollars.

green is the same as copper when it comes to the ground. You should be able to hook the white and copper to the same terminal. Then your red and black should be hooked to your hot wires. Isn't there a schematic on the back of the oven? This should show where all wires go. Just be safe.

Ok I have a better understanding about this now.

the guy that i had doing this didn't get the rite wire from the start. he ran 12-2 wire and for 2 reasons this isn't going to work for the oven's.
1 being its half the size of the rite wire.
2 being there isn't a neutral in the loop.
i needed the 8-3 wire to run this it has a 4 wire set to it being the red, white, black, green. all together now and up and running thanks for your help. And another thing I found out s that to never never never hook the ground with any of the other wires. was told that could turn out in a death sentence...
