I would bet lunch that it will not come out good. The oil left in the case will vent out into the oven causing lots of fisheyes and other defects. Are you going to attempt to bead blast the case without disassembly?Glad this isn't my tranny but hey good luck I've seen people get away with weirder stuff.

OK, not sure if this will work, but...
Couldn't he run a set of tubes from the vents on the case to the outside of the oven, and maybe even hook them up to a vacuum pump? That would allow the pressure build up to be vented, and the vacuum would even reduce the tendancy to want to leak fluid onto the coating; HOPEFULLY long enough to cure the powder. Degrease and maybe steam clean the case first, and then see if you can try it. Any reason why that shouldn't work? Jay |

Ok since people are determined to test me
Virtually all transmissions contain plastic speedo gears, plastic thrust bushings and newer transmissions actually contain electronic components. We all know how plastic likes heat. Now some will argue that trannys get hot when running and it doesn't hurt them.(true) When hot and dry it's a whole different set of variables on the materials than flooded with oil. As for venting-- sure remember to put vents on the torque converter input, the axle shaft or drive shaft outpus, the dipstick opening, the cooler lines, the modulator mount port and I almost forgot the case vent itself.(which is made of plastic also) I'm sure I'm overlooking items but for a high quality job that you can charge alot for--strip it and do it right. It's gonna pay off when you see the finished product. |
