Grounding

Do you find it necessary to attach the grounding clip directly to the part or is it adequate to attach it to the metal hook that you hang the part on?

In my short experience I have found that grounding to the part works much better.If you ground to the hanger make sure the hanger is a good clean bare metal hanger and where it contacts the part is also good and clean.

the hook is fine, Reminds me I have to strip all my hooks, or cut up a few more coat hangers

I was hoping that grounding the metal rack I'll be using would work as I'll be spraying several parts together.

NoobPC, be careful with coat hangers, they're coated and will have to be stripped to make good contact. Welding rod would be easier, altho not as available to everyone.

I am aware of that, it is easier to sand paper off the zinc coating then the accumulated Powder

You just made me realize that either I should use 2 different hooks for each item or else I will be curing powder onto my hooks intended for spraying. That's not without its own set of problems, that is transferring the item from one hook to the other without shaking off some powder. Do you use the same hook?

Well, being this close to the shore, I wouldn't want to ride it out, the only problem is, there's no rooms on the opposite coast. Decisions, decisions!

Don't over look buying hooks. I pay between $10.00 and $15.00 per thousand hooks depending on size. Then I throw them away after single use. They are always clean and grounded.The customers don't realize the .10 to .15 cents built into the price of the coating job.When you figure your time to strip or make hooks versus paying for them it works out very close to equal. Then the saved time can be spent coating more pieces for higher income. Some of you will say "1000 hooks will take forever to use up that many", they go faster than you think.

What kind of hooks are you talking about - simple 'S' hooks or something else?
