I use Black Magnum, Black Beauty, etc. It is a slag based abraisive rather than silica. It is quite agressive, and leaves an excellent surface for the powder to adhere to. I use it on steel and aluminum. It is fairly dusty, but low cost and easily available. I've been using a Shop Vac with a water trap for the dust. Slag is much safer than silica.

I am using Alum Oxide I got a HF and it seems to work well. I do a lot of Steel and Aluminum without any problems. I used Play ground sand! when I did the Heads on my V8 prior to Ceramic Coating them. I did it outside with a breather and just swept it into the yard when I was done. It seemed to work well.

i was actually thinking about the shot more from the dust perspective, i would really like to heat the blast booth so i dont freeze my ass off during the winter nights? would be nice to turn off the ventilation fans and just use the scba and suit. maybe people already do this it makes since to me but i have only ever had a cabinet before and now that i dropped several grand into this project i would like to make it the best i can. jeff
