Default Would using a stainless steel freezer body for a PC oven be

possible? The chest type freezer would allow a large item to be set inside with a overhead trolley and winch setup without any hands touching the powder coating. Then using a wall furnace / stove burner setup on each end of the freezer with the stove thermostat and wall furnace fan controls / blower system to regulate the heat and air flow.

Does this sound like a inexpensive large powder coat oven possibility?

I believe you will run into a problem with most freezers are foam filled and this type of insulation will not work with heat (fire). but your idea is sound. my local heating shop is dropping off a old propane gas furnace tommorow and i will be trying to adapt this to my newest oven. sounds like what your going to do? whqat was your plann for the fire box.

Default Well, I was thinking of having burners external the freezer,

mounted on the ends of the freezer. That way the fumes from the propane won't mix with the heated air inside the freezer and ruin the powder coat finish.

Your idea of a home gas furnace, would that achieve the 400-450 degree F required for a powder coating oven?

I was thinking of using either 2 or 4 propane BBQ grill burners to heat the circulating air...I was hopefull that would achieve the required temperature.

Feel free to shoot holes in this idea...it will only prevent mistakes before building the oven. Thanks

i have used open burners but i really would like to start heating the oven with just hot air and no open flame.
i was going to dis assemble the furnace and mount the burner or fire box on the side and then build a duct work that would countinualy recirculate the air through the oven fire box. it should be no problem to reach the temp and i was going to re calibrate the temp control or buy one that works at a hotter temp. it will take a little r&d but i feel confedent i can make a oven that is inexpensive to operate and very clean on the inside like electric. does your freezer box have foam or glass insulation? how will you regulate the temp?
