color matching

Does anyone know what equipment they use when you send in a sample color to have powder matched? Im assuming its something sim to the computer matching stuff like acehardware uses for paint. Some of the Hatches I do for this company come off custom built yachts and they have to be coated to the paint the customer has on the boat.
