Default Air compressor questions

hey guys, I went to look at this air compressor today its built in 1951, 60 gallon, upright , 1hp 220V motor with like a 200lb huge pump. the guy started it up and took quiet some time to fill up the tank, the compressor wasnt turning very fast to me. could it be the motor is not spinning fast enough to create presure fast?

Sounds like my compressor. Most the older compressors are slow recovery as compared to the ones today. Mine does ok if I let off what I am doing every 10 or 15 minutes, especially on a high demand like a blasting cabinet. You can check it with a tach but you will probably find, if the setup is original, that is just the nature of that beast.
