Default Coating for charcoal grill rack

I'm painting some items for a local blacksmith. One of the items is a rack to cook on, over an open fire.

My options are using a high temperature black or black ceramic (which I doubt either one is FDA approved). Has anybody done anything like this before, or know of FDA approved black powder. My charcoal grill has a black coating on the rack, so I know there is something out there.
