Default Clear coat temp. limits

I recently bought a nice set of polished aluminum engine cases for my Harley. The polished aluminum is gorgeous. However, I know what a pain it is to keep aluminum lookin good. Is it possible to clear coat aluminum w/out peeling or yellowing, due to heat? I would also like to bead blast the heads and clear coat them as well. Does powder adhere better to iron vs. aluminum?

i am just starting out in powder but as for the yellowing it is not supposed to do that if applied right. as for what metal is better both work fine.
as i said i am a newbie to powder, 2 guys that can answer this better than me is chuck(customandsound) and wayne(blademan) they both do lots of powder and have tons more experience than me. i am sure one of them will chime in and answer this better for you. best of luck bro.
ps what kind of harley? i ask because i am in the process of customizing an 85 fxr.

it depend on the clear you use.. i use 500+ gloss rated clear and it stays clear .. i have also used the CeraKote Clear I woorks great to.. AS for the cerakote i am not sure if caswell got the clear i know they got chrome ex and a few other products in that form ..

Good luck and happy powdering ...

Opp's ...

You can clear polish as long as it is super clean .. and yes you can just glassbead and shot clear.

As for metal : It works on both

I've got polished cases on mine and the tranny is polished as well.. It's worth the trouble
Are your cases billet or OEM sand cast? Most of the older HD stuff I've seen powdered off gases BAD, don't know about the newer..
What about Zoop seal?

mine is only polished on the trapdoor, primary and cone, and the rocker boxes. the cases and jugs are standard cast. in a couple years i am going to rebuild the motor completely, at that time i will polish the lower cases and powder the jugs and heads and have them diamond cut. i hope by then my polishing is up to show quality. if not i will have chuck do it for me.

Wow!! The response from you all is killer. I didn't anticipate so many replies this quickly.Thank you all very much. To answer the questions... I'm building a fresh 93 incher for my old Shovel (81 FXWG). The cases are new billet from Delkron. The heads are still bare iron. I think now is prime time to get the parts flawlessly polished and then I hope to clear coat them all. Hopefully that will greatly reduce the number of little circles I have to do....with a sock and a can of Mothers.LOL What is ZOOP seal?
