hey bro first off i am a relocated texas boy but a 25 year mechanic. as for this all being bad news i dont intend it to be that, as i said chuck can work magic at times, and he very possibly can get the finish you want. if not you would be best to powder or plate at that point to get the show flash i feel you are looking for. i just want to let you and others that may read this thread know what is possible to run into when dealing with castings. it is not always this case but is always possible, pitting in cast alum is common and not necessarily a sign of substandard parts but substandard process.
as for stubborn i fully understand that bro. as for stupid i would say if you built the engine in the photos you are definately not stupid.

The motor was built by a Drag Boat Racer named Rex Hutchenson

Those guys could give a rip about perty.

So Pickle Do not feel as if you rained on my parade. I am an investment guy who grew up around racing and every now and then I blow a few bucks and do something like this. I just picked up a nice 53 Chevy for a driver that is 85% restored. After I fire this motor I will move these headers over to that one and get some new headers to look good on this moter. Will go with near chrome on both sets.

Pickle, do you agree with FXST and say I should power coat this thing in a near chrome? Should I just not be such a candi and chrome it? What do you and others think? Have not heard much from Chuck sense I put up the picture. Think he may have had a coronary, maybe we should check the Pittsburgh Hospitals and make sure the guy is OK.

That casing looks to bad ... but i am sure i can do it ...the only worky i got it by enlarging the pic and clearing them some of them pits are deep and tto remove the metal to smooth them areas it going to take it way to thin..

I can be chromed pits will need filled with lead.. Now if you powder it with chrome you can get away with using metal to metal body filler.. Now the chromex is a chrome ceramic coating that is polished to a chrome look will work. you still need to get the surface some what straight them blast it with super fine media( sand )

And how did i get your pics up? i hosted them to and put the code in
For exp. i will use the casswell code: they must have the jpg, gif, bmp ect. at the end in order for it to work ... You right click then copy the properties then place that with the img

as chuck just posted i think the cromex coating would be ideal. that way it can have the pits filled and then coated over it. it is a very high temp and looks darn close to real chrome when shined up after cure. plus chuck has done a good bit of this high temp and should be able to give you a class a job. as for real plating i would save that as a last resort. i dont know what plating cost in your part of the country but here in michigan it is outrageous$$$.
