Cool Oh...it really winds me up...

Well, I have been reading this forum very closely as I want to start out with powder coating.

I have decided that I will pick up a domestic oven to start, and knock together a spraying booth from plywood etc.

Now we come to the sticky part, the gun.

You guys can get a CE gun Caswell one for around 100 bucks.

Convert that over into British Pounds, and thats £54 Damn, thats a bargain, even comparing your buying power against ours.

So I think, lets check out caswelleurope (Speed Demon Motorcycles), and the price is £160 ($294 USD).

Well, as you can well believe, I was flabbergasted. Even allowing for import duties and shipping costs, that is an obscenely high price, and now I have to save up to buy it.

But apart from that, fantastic well moderated forum and I hope to see you all on here more when I can finally afford to get set up and going.

Regards

Scott

Firstly, you need to look at the 'International Exchange Standard' - a McDonalds Big Mac. In the USA, I think they go for about $3.00 now, in the UK, they go for about 3 pounds. Which is double the price. Then take gasolene $3 in the USA, more than twice that in the UK. House prices, double in the UK. How do I know? I was born there, and revisit occasionally.

Also consider that we have gone to our suppliers and got them to make a SPECIAL gun, just for the UK and Australia, that runs on 240 volts. It cost LOTS more. Then there is the shipping. Try sending a 30lb package from the UK to the USA and see what it costs. Customs brokers in the UK are a ripoff. Add all those together, THEN mark up the profit required, and it will make the number soar.

I guess those that bitch and moan about the USA, don't realise how good it really is.

Let's analyze our distributor's price a little.

The gun he is selling is a 220V gun, which retails from us at $125.00US.

To ship this to you would be $118.81. You would then have to pay a brokerage fee, VAT, duty and a COD charge to collect this amount from you. FedEx estimates these as:

Duty $3.94
VAT $41.25
COD $5.00
Brokerage $20.00

That puts your LANDED cost at $314.00 or 174 pounds sterling.

He's selling the system for 160 pounds, plus postage. No idea what that is, but it can't be more than the 14 pound difference in price. Also take into consideration the faster shipping time when ordering direct from the UK, and the fact that you're supporting a business in your own country, and I think you'll agree, his price is very fair.
