Exclamation Discussion about improving line density

Hi everyone, we are looking to improve our line density, we are designing custom racks to hang parts from both sides, we are working with mighty hook, etc.
Everything is going great with the project, the problem is this, we have a supervisor (he calls himself an expert on powder coating) that told us to stop doing that because if we increase the density we start losing ground.

What do you think about this affirmation?

Losing ground? He apparently has no knowledge of electricity and how it works. as long as your parts are properly grounded to the rack and the rack is grounded to the line(conveyor) and you have a good solid earth ground then you have nothing to worry about. Earth ground is really the only constant as long as your connections are good, and if you're changing your line density chances are that you will be maintaining your line as well. You should only need to check and repair your grounds. You only lose ground through bad connections or improper wiring.

bzer1 is right...you may actually get better grounding because of the added weight of the parts on the rack. The weight of the rack may help make contact if there was any ground issues. You have to be sure that if you add density, you don't skimp on quality ground cleaning! This is maybe what your powder guy meant. Sometimes, it is necessary to clean to ground portion of each part on your rack prior to powder coating. If the rack has too many hang locations, your employee/s may not clean them as well as they should, reducing grounding and producing potential rejects. I'm not sure if this is the case you have, but in the industry world, it happens regularly. In industry, the racks are sometimes cleaned as they pass by a person grinding the rack on the conveyor. The line speed usually determines how clean the person gets each hang location. Not the best choice.
