Default powdercoating rotors

I am powdercoating my wheels on my R1 hugger orange and I was wondering if I could also do the Rotors? Will the part of the rotor where the pads hit come clean of the powdercoat without wrecking the pads? I know that if you chrome the rotors the part that the pad hits wears away with no effect to the other components but that is metal, not paint.
thanks

Don't coat the brake area!!! The brakes will grab. I did a Sportster rotor and then cleaned the brake area with a Scotchbrite pad. It worked very well.

Depending on the rotor type, you may be able to powder coat them completely, then turn the contact surfaces on a brake lathe to remove the coating. This would work nicely for finned automotive rotors, but I'm not sure about motorcycle rotors. If your rotors are cross drilled, it may not be a good idea to have the vent holes coated. As the rotor wears, plastic will be introduced onto the braking surface.
