chemical pretreatment

I have been powder coating nothing but polished motorcycle parts lately and was wondering if there is a way to actually pretreat the parts that are polished with a pretreatment chemical to get better chip reisitance, I dont really have a problem just really curious because the powder has a tendecy to chip easier, also it flows out too smooth so you have to be very cautious of not putting more then a thin dusting on a part, otherwise you will get a run and I know you need a beaded or blasted suface to provide good mechanical adhesion, so maybe using a chemical to stop the powder from sliding would be the trick.

If your coating over the polished part why not just blast to help create the surface needed to help the powder hold? If your shooting candy colors why not just shoot chrome base? This will help hold the finish with less chance of chipping...

I am using translucent colors to give an anodize appearence, some call it color chrome. Using a chrome base powder coat will not give the same look that the polished finish can give, or regular triple chrome plate. I am not having a problem with chipping, the problem is with the powder during flow out. The polished surface is too smooth so you have runs on the edges in the finish, you have to be less then 1 mil in thickness to achieve this, also lower the K.V down to 10-20 using a misting method to only bascially dust the part with powder.

What I really would like to know is if someone has used a pretreatment that doesnt effect the polished finish, but also leaves a chemical layer for the powder to bond with.
