    Question Magnesium???

I have a job thats a fan from a 911 Porsche that is magnesium. Has anyone done any magnesium bits? I remember from science class that it burns really hot and I dont wanna have to buy one if things go wrong.
If it jams; Force it. And if it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

what are you doing to it? polish or powder coat?
when in doubt polish it out/ why replace it when you can refinish it

Actually it is the fan on my 911....I plan of bead blasting (if possible) and then powdercoating it in a silver or chrome-ish look....I have heard that magnesium is very volitale....is bead blasting ok?.....will it take the heat of curing? It is fairly oxidized....would a solvent wash be better than blasting?

Pickelboy, it needs to be PC'd, i did find its elements table listed online and has a melting point of 1200f. but if a spark of some sort hits it i dont know what the reaction will be... I can only asume that this material in this application would be pretty stable.

for pc work magnesium is a pain in the rear. it is very prone to outgas. it should be ok to bead blast it. just use low to mid pressure. then outgas for at least a full cure cycle before a final clean and powder. then cure the powder at the bottom of the recommend temp range for the longest cycle. this should be what will get you going. best of luck bro.
ps if you sand on this make sure it does not start to draw sparks if so the dust will catch fire easily
