Question Got some questions

Hello all! I'm new to the forums and the whole powder coating hobby. I hope to learn alot while i'm here. Hopefully i'll be able to help in the future after I gain some experience.

Now on to the questions.

1. The Black Satin (BHK) coating is an "Air Drying" coating, does it require anything else to fully cure it? or just apply and it's good?

2. The picture of Black Satin looks like it's a liquid, how do I apply the Black Satin coating? (ie; powder gun, paint gun, paint brush, etc).

3. Which coatings can be used inside of exhaust parts (ie; inside ehaust manifold/headers, inside of turbo housings, etc.). I was thinking that i would like to use Black Satin (or what ever is better for this idea) to coat the exhaust runners, the exhaust manifold, the inside and outside of the turbo housing, and finally the inside of the ehaust down-pipe that goes from the turbo to the catalytic converter. Will Black Satin withstand this abuse?

4. I visited the Tech Line website to learn more about the CBC1 POWERKOTE. They have a product called CBX POWERKOTE which is "Designed for Performance engines running; Nitrous oxide, Supercharged or Turbocharged. For all other applications use CBC2". The CBC1 says it's for "High performance engines", but says nothing about turbos/nitrous/superchargers. Anyone have an idea about how I could get some CBX?

5. The Tech Line Internal Engine coatings DFL-1 POWERKOTE and CBC1 POWERKOTE are "water-based", what equipment is used to apply these two coatings?

Thanks ahead of time for the help!!!
Jimmy

Jimmy,

I use all off the Tech Line products.
Satin Black will cure on fire up on the motor, etc. BUT a better product for your application would be TURBO-X

Still has a satin look to it.

I use it on headers, turbos, pipe etc..

All of these are liquid based and use a paint gun.
This is the gun I use
http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/shp7040.html

Send me a e-mail if you want some CBX I can order a bottle or 2 for you.
use this addy tpi383@adelphia.net my cecoatings one is all screwed up right now.

I have AIM as FSTFBDY also..

Hi ya Fstfbdy! Thanks for replying. What year F body do you have? Running a turbo/s? If so, how much boost are you running? Is that a red Fox body in that pic? That's a mighty large hair-dryer there!!!!! Putting that on a 502?? Lol

Back to the topic: The Turbo-X looks great to me!! I guess I did'nt notice it Here we go with some more
1. Would you happen to know what the temperature ratings on the Turbo-X coating are? Both Caswell and Tech Line do not list the rating. Black Satin's description: "Withstands 2000f temperatures".

2. Do you know or think it's possible that the coating may be vulnerable to fuel prior to full cure?

3. Have you coated the inside of your parts?

Found it... "Full cure occurs at 750F" I found that info in the "Bulk and Shop Only" section of Tech Line's site. The same thing also applies to the Turbo-X coating. Perhaps someone at Caswell could put this info on the description on your site (hint..hint...) After all, more info usually doesn't hurt.

Yes that is a LARGE hair dryer. We dont play around n these neck of the woods..lol. Thats going on aBigBlock in a buddys camaro also. but thats a full race car. Mine is a little smaller. http://www.cecoatings.com/images/Car...hed%20HX55.jpg
http://www.cecoatings.com/images/Car...SRandTurbo.jpg
lol.

Ok anyways back to the topic...
I coat the inside and out of headers and all piping. but just the outside of the housing as you can see in the PT106 above. Turbo X is formulated just for the setups and Ive seen somepeople push the turbos and the headers/turbo start to glow. Id have to give Tech line a call and ask what the failure points are. Its gota be upthere.

When you do any of the turbo X you get a semi cure at 500* for an hour As the rep as tech line put it. Then you get full cure once the parts are ran on the car.

I've never had anything come back yet and I do lots of hi HP cars pushing TONS of boost.

Hi Helf, I very much love these cars too! Wow your car looks nice!! You might wana think about removing the front valance and the fibrerides and protecting them. Getting rare these days My mom has one of the 3 prototype VNT cars (which Carroll Shelby was supposed to destroy after testing). My website is www.jamperformance.com . It's kinda lacking info on my car because i'm gonna eventually set up my site differently. But there's lots of videos with more to come. My brother has his turbo minivan on there too. A friend and I just got back from Las Vegas for the Mopars at the Strip event. Brought his 1985 Dodge Omni. He was low e.t. qualifier, and 1st place for the Sport Compact class. His best was 11.90 @ 115. He could have went faster, but was bracket racing and did'nt want to break out.

I just sent an email to Tech Line about the Turbo X. Once i find out more info, i'll post it here and perhaps send a PM to Mcaswell so that he can add the info to the description.

I found out some information. I emailed Techline with some questions and here's the responses.

I emailed: "I have a question about TURBO X ™. Am I able to use this product inside of the following: exhaust manifold and turbine housing? What are the temperature ratings for this product? What temperature is the "fail point"? I ask because I will probably be seeing exhaust gas temps of up to 1600 degrees."

Response: "Turbo X is NOT designed for inside use. Our MCS is, but prep is critical especially on a turbo as you DO NOT want delamination."

The response was pretty lacking, so i asked again: "Sorry to be a nuisance; What are the temperature ratings for TURBO X?
Is it possible for me to get some of the MCS? I see that it's in the "Shop Only" section, but I can assure you that I won't be baking the turbo next to tonights turkey dinner Are there any special preparations above and beyond what is used prior to performing a standard ceramic/powder coating job?
"

Response: "Turbo X will maintain adhesion to 2000f. The color will flatten at 1000F but will maintain color stability to it's temp limits. MCS is only available to a shop who has sent in a copy of their Business License and their State Resale or Tax ID number."

Mike, or anyone who has access to the web site's design, you may want to add to the description of the TURBO X product that it is not meant to be used internally and that it maintains adhesion to 2000f.

internally as in the turbo housing.

I do inside and outside of turbo headers and tubing.

but ONLY the outside of turbos as you can see in the picture above.

BTW, I can order anything from techline if you need anything just let me know.
