Default Silver vein and Hig temp black questions

I have 2 questions about new powders I used for the first time tonight. First is I was using high temp gloss black. The problem is it just isnt nearly as glossy as regular powder. Is that typical? My oven temps and timing were good according to the directions but it just isnt as nice looking as i expected.

My other question is about silver vein. I just did a small 3"x2" test plate but I was wondering if you can vary the look of the powder. My test plate had very small texture with small bits of silver and black. Other pieces I've seen have a coarser looking texture. Is there a way to vary that with temp, time, thickness or anything?

I am no expert, but I did a brass plate with silver vein and got the "small" effect you described. I then did an aluminum framework and went a bit heavier with the coating and got a notably courser texture. My theory is that the more powder you build up, the courser the texture, but I'd like to hear it from others to be sure that my observation isn't flawed.....

that was my guess but all i've done so far is a small 2" alumunum sample.

Anybody know anything about the high temp? Should it be pretty smooth and glossy compared to a normal powder? I'd really like to try and redo this piece tomorrow.

Caswell High Temp Gloss Black

I wouldnt say it came out flat but it wasnt the smooth glossy finish you usually get with powdercoating. I dont know if that is typical of high temp powders or not, I've never used them before.

That sounds like the same look I got with it. More of a satin look. It didn't even have as much gloss as the black cat urethane. The flat black is a good color and is a true flat or matte finish. The silver is a semi-textured coating.

Alright, not really what I wanted to hear though its nice to know I want doing anything wrong. The piece I did was just a grill lid for my uncle and I showed him the result and he was plenty happy I just didnt want to be putting parts out that arent as good as they should be. At least I found out on a piece that wasnt real important as opposed to a paying customer wanting a shiny gloss finish.

thanks,
Adam
