Default First paying item DISASTER!!!!

Took a part in to do for a guy and did all the usual prep like I always do and YUCK!! The powder didn't seem to flowout. This was a gloss black. Some came out nice and shiny and other areas grainy like sand. Could this be a heating problem? Moisture? I am at a loss. Help!!!!

This is strange, I have run into this exact same problem today. Super mirror black (from another company) will not flow out smooth for the life of me. Mine is on some aluminum motorycle case covers. I was also having a slight outgassing problem (only noticible when you examined the parts real close.)

Like you, it's got me stumped. Tried different temps, outgassing, scotchbrite then recoating (which had worse appearence than 1st coat )

I look forward to hearing some suggestions.

Greg

Why yes it is. Any suggestions to a high gloss black that won't pinhole. It's weird though. It didn't do this on the scuffed chrome parts, only the aluminum parts.

(Glad it's not just me )

I tried w/ Picklex, then without. No real difference in appearence. Haven't done the phosphate coating.

This is all after degreasing, sandblast, blowoff (3 stage filter dryer), and wipe down w/ acetone. Also tried spray off w/ non-residue brake cleaner instead of wipe w/ acetone. No difference.

I've used Caswell super mirror black with no problems on steel. I did have some issues on Aluminum though. Maybe it's very sensitive to outgassing. I outgassed my parts for hours and still had problems. I did a steel battery hold down and it came out great.

I haven't tried it on steel yet, I will today. I used their Super Mirror Red on some shock springs and they came out great. Maybe you're right about the sensitivity to outgassing.

Had me throwing a few choice phrases around the shop the last few days.
