Default Coating stuff to go in a freezer

My uncle just got a huge freezer for real cheap but the racks arent made of stainless and are rusted pretty bad. Any reason why I can powdercoat them? Will it hold up to the freezing temps? Anyone know if any certain powder type would be better than another?

thanks
Adam

Hmmm, good question. Anyone know what powder stands up to on the low side?

You won't have a problem with powder at low temps.

You might want to check for FDA approved coatings. I know that there are food grade powders out there but they're very expensive. I had a customer that required antimicrobial coatings for a food service table, but the powder cost more than he was willing to pay for the whole job so I didn't bother getting any more info about it. I imagine there might be a similar requirement for freezer racks if they are used for food but I can't be sure, so you might want to check it out before you coat the racks.

I will mention that to my uncle but its just for his home personal use and it will be covered in a layer of ice in no time. Good point though, thanks.

For some reason I thought it might have been for commercial use...That not being the case it probably won't matter. Just use what you have in stock.

Nope just home use. He owns the weldshop that had all the equipment to build my oven so I dont mind coating stuff for free for him. I coated them tonight in Bright White. He's getting the coolant system checked out just to make it isnt leaking anywhere then it will be up and running. He had it down to 10 degrees F a couple nights ago so I'll get to check out pieces at least that cold and see how well they hold up.
